A Clean Source, Tested at Your Tap

Whole house water filtration in Buena Vista, CO is a smaller decision than in many towns, because the Town's main source is a good one. The Town of Buena Vista draws most of its water from an infiltration gallery in the Gorrel Meadows alluvial aquifer along Cottonwood Creek, and in a state water grant application the Town said that source has served it since 1974 without exceeding state primary or secondary drinking water standards. Its 2024 water quality report also lists Wells No. 2 and No. 3. Our team travels from Grand Junction to Buena Vista to run a free water test at your tap. Call (970) 773-6439 to book.

So why test? Because the Town's report describes the water leaving its system, not the water coming out of your faucet after your service line, your water heater and your fixtures have had their turn. And plenty of homes around Buena Vista sit on private wells that no town report covers. Smart Living Water holds a 4.9 rating across 76 Google reviews and is a member of the Western Colorado Home Builders Association. If your water is fine, we'll tell you and leave.

What Buena Vista's Water Report Shows

Low numbers across the board, and one gap we fill at your sink.

The Town's 2024 Drinking Water Quality Report, covering 2023, gives a useful baseline. The water is disinfected with chlorine. Total trihalomethanes measured 15.8 ppb against an 80 ppb limit and haloacetic acids 14.2 ppb against 60. Nitrate averaged 1.15 ppm, with a high of 2.1, against a limit of 10. Combined uranium came in at 8 ppb in 2021 against a limit of 30, and combined radium at 1.5 pCi/L against 5. Sodium averaged about 11 ppm. Every one of those is within the standard. What the report doesn't include is a hardness figure, so we won't hand you one. Our free test measures hardness, chlorine, dissolved solids and pH at your own tap. If a carbon filter for chlorine taste is the only thing worth doing, that's what we'll suggest.

What We Install

Systems for Buena Vista Homes

Matched to your results, not to a sales sheet.

Whole House Filtration

A whole house water filtration system with carbon removes the chlorine taste and smell from every tap and shower and reduces disinfection byproducts.

Drinking Water Filtration

If the whole-house numbers are good and you only want better water for drinking and cooking, point-of-use filtration at the kitchen sink is the right size of answer.

Water Softener Installation

Only if your test shows real hardness. A properly sized water softener stops scale in water heaters and on fixtures, and we set it from your actual numbers.

Whole Home Reverse Osmosis

Most useful for private wells. Whole-home RO treats dissolved minerals and contaminants that carbon doesn't touch, and we only recommend it when a result points that way.

What Buena Vista Homeowners Should Know

The Town is growing into its water rights. Its state application described plans to expand the infiltration gallery, which then produced up to 800 gallons per minute in summer, to make full use of its Cottonwood Creek rights and bring on a redundant supply. The Town also noted the gallery water needs no pretreatment because of its historically high quality. If you live outside town limits in Chaffee County, you're likely on your own well, and the Town's results don't describe it. Wells can carry hardness, iron, nitrate or naturally occurring uranium at levels very different from the Town's. Even the Town's own uranium result, low as it is, shows the mineral is present in local water. A well deserves a test of its own. And for any home, older plumbing is the wild card. The Town's lead result at the 90th percentile was 2 ppb in 2023, well below the 15 ppb action level, but your own fixtures and service line are what you actually drink through. A free water test covers it.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Buena Vista's town water come from?
Mainly from an infiltration gallery in the Gorrel Meadows alluvial aquifer, tied to the Town's Cottonwood Creek water rights, according to the Town's state water grant application. The Town's water quality report also lists Wells No. 2 and No. 3.
Is Buena Vista water safe to drink?
The Town's latest report shows all listed contaminants within their limits, and the Town says its infiltration gallery has never exceeded state drinking water standards since 1974. Our test checks what reaches your own tap, including anything your plumbing adds.
Is Buena Vista water hard?
The Town's report doesn't publish a hardness figure, so we measure it at your home during the free test. If it's low, you don't need a softener and we'll say so.
I'm on a well outside Buena Vista. What should I test?
Hardness, iron, nitrate and pH are a good start, and uranium is worth checking because it occurs naturally in the area's water. Our in-home test covers the basics, and we'll tell you if the results point to a certified lab test.
Do you come to Buena Vista?
Yes. We are a Grand Junction company, and Buena Vista is on our list. Book the free test by calling (970) 773-6439, and if you decide on a system, the same team handles the install.
