Loma Water Has a Mineral Problem

Smart Living Water installs whole-home water filtration and softening systems in Loma, CO, and we'll come to you at no charge for a free water test to find out exactly what's in your water. Loma's water is hard, and whether you're on city or well water changes what else is worth checking. The test covers hardness, chloramines, lead, VOCs, and PFAS, because knowing your actual numbers matters before you spend a dollar on any solution. Call (970) 773-6439 and we'll schedule a visit that works for you.

Loma is served by Artesian Water Services Redd Hauler and Ute Water Conservancy District, and like most of the Grand Valley, the water coming into your home is going to be hard. Loma's clay-rich soils add another layer of concern for homes with on-site systems, since the Mesa County Public Health Department requires a permit before any installation, alteration, or repair of an on-site wastewater treatment system. Any water softener installation or filtration work that touches your plumbing also goes through Mesa County Building Department for permits and inspection. We know the process. We handle jobs out here regularly, and we don't cut corners on the permitting side.

What Loma Homeowners Are Actually Dealing With

High mineral content is the headline, but it's rarely the whole story.

Hardness and Scale Buildup

Hard water leaves calcium deposits on fixtures, inside appliances, and in water heaters. In Loma, this happens faster than most homeowners expect because the mineral load in the supply is high. You'll see it first on shower glass and faucets, but it's working on your pipes and equipment the whole time.

Chlorine and Chloramines

Treated municipal water in the Grand Valley uses chlorine or chloramines as disinfectants. They're doing a job, but they don't need to follow the water all the way to your glass or your shower. A whole-home system strips them out at the point of entry.

PFAS and Heavy Metals

These are the contaminants people don't think about until a test shows them. Lead, heavy metals, and PFAS are all on our Loma test list, and a standard softener doesn't address any of them. It takes a multi-stage filtration system or a whole home reverse osmosis setup to knock them down to safe levels.

Radionuclides

Radionuclides have no taste, color, or smell, so most people never think to ask about them. If your results call for a closer look, we'll tell you, and it's one reason we run a thorough water test before recommending any particular system.

How It Works

Three Steps From Test to Clean Water

Free Water Test at Your Home

We drive to Loma at no charge, test your water on-site, and show you exactly what's in it. No guessing, no pressure to buy anything on the spot.

Honest System Recommendation

Based on what the test shows, we recommend the right system for your actual water. Not the biggest one, not the most expensive one. The one that solves your problem.

Professional Installation, Same Day When Possible

We handle permits through Mesa County Building Department and install the system correctly. Plumbing inspections are part of the process and we don't skip them.

Systems We Install in Loma

Whole House Water Filtration

A whole-home filtration system treats every faucet, shower, and appliance in the house. For Loma homes dealing with chlorine, sediment, VOCs, or heavy metals, this is the foundation. Maintenance-free once installed.

Water Softener Installation

Softening addresses the hardness that's scaling your appliances and drying out your skin. We install salt-based and saltless systems depending on your water chemistry and preferences. No annual maintenance contracts, no hidden service fees.

Whole Home Reverse Osmosis

This is the most complete solution we offer. A custom-built whole-home RO system handles hardness, PFAS, heavy metals, radionuclides, and more. Not every home needs it, but for Loma households with complex water chemistry, it's worth a conversation.

HydraShield Elite Systems

The HydraShield Elite is one of the specific systems we install for whole-home treatment. One of our customers described it as the Cadillac of water systems, and that's a fair description of what it does for water quality throughout the house.

I recently moved to the Fruita/GJ area and immediately had Joredan install a salt system as my family likes soft water. I found Joredan online through searches and other sources. I called his competitors and none of them had anything bad or negative to say, which is highly unusual. And Joredan didn’t say anything negative about them either. They all seemed to know each other. JOREDAN’s explanation of his systems and how they were constructed and how they worked were ultimately what won me over. I scheduled him to install the system for the day of my home closing so it would be ready to go. Install was really cool to watch. They did some good work. After one regeneration cycle, the water was so soft I had to call him and thank him. But he went above and beyond. I moved back to Fruita from FL where I used a company that provides a similar salt system. But they rip their customers off by charging $300 per year to “maintain the system and deliver 2 bags of salt every 8 weeks.” They did nothing to “maintain the system” other than put in salt and hit regen on the panel. I had black mold growing in my brine tank and it was coming into the home via the toilets. I disputed this with the company and they said it was normal due to the humidity. Nothing is normal about mold. So I disputed the charge of $300 because they weren’t doing their job. They fought me and my bank wanted a third party person who worked in the industry to write an opinion. Joredan wrote me a letter while he was on vacation. I submitted it. I won my claim. Got my money back from the rip off company. JOREDAN and Smart Living Water are true professionals. I know if I encounter any issues he will come out and make it right. And he doesn’t charge annual fees or any of that crap. Just straight forward, upfront pricing. And he explains how the system functions and when it will need to be flushed or repaired (like in 10 years!). He’s a good guy too. Easy to talk to. Thank you Joredan.

I found Smart Living Water on Google and tried to call two other local competitors first and they did not answer their phones. Later that day I called Joredan (after hours expecting an answering machine) and instead he answered surprisingly and we literally talked for almost an hour. He asked lots of questions, and I literally about broke down. Finally solutions and not more problems. I spent ten years with scars that wouldn't heal. Seven surgeries. My most recent one was six months ago, and within a few weeks of being back in hard water, it was cracking and bleeding all over again — it’s like my body couldn't catch a single break. Then I put in the HydraShield Elite whole-house system from Smart Living Water (I call it the Cadillac, and it earns the nickname), and in less than a week my skin started healing in ways it hasn't in a decade. I'm not reaching for lotion just to function. I’m not using it AT ALL except on my hands – YAY! I'm using less soap. And for the first time in years, I'm not waking up thirsty in the night, thanks to the RO. I drank distilled water for three years to protect my health, and the gunk my distiller used to pull out of the water was its own warning (I've added the pictures to prove it). I added the reverse osmosis system too, and honestly, the difference in how I feel is amazing. I do so much just to deal with chronic pain and live life, that anything and everything can make or break the day to day. What sold me wasn't a pitch — it was Joredan Quigley asking the right questions. He focused on me, my situation, and my actual health needs, then matched me to the right system instead of the biggest one. His customer service is the best I've come across: he follows up, he shows up, and his assistant Hayden Christenson made the whole thing simple. This saltless system ships anywhere in the U.S. Here's what people to hear: look at your water FIRST and let Joredan guide you. Well water, city water — doesn't matter. So much of what we put up with or blame on our skin, our health, starts with what we put into our body. I was drinking 2 gallons of water a day the last couple months moving. It wasn’t working. I added electrolytes and it wasn’t enough. Meanwhile my scars were becoming debilitating again. My cells could not hydrate and I was super light headed. Moving is stressful enough without all the extra complications. Thankfully it is now going the other way. I will update this review as I go along. Here is the difference of what I was dealing with in my distiller alone. ________________________________________

Tastes Good!! Smart Living Water is in a similar class as Deep Rock Artesian water (no longer available), the best drinking water we have ever assessed by our method of energetic testing. Joredan is personable, smart, knowledgeable, timely, and easy to work with. We recommend the Smart Living Water Purification system as an extremely worthwhile homeowner's investment! Dr. T and J

I met Joredan at the Grand Junction home show. We are on well water (new experience for us) and I had already installed a purification/softener system. I did not know about Smart Living Water at the time. Joredan made no sales pitch, but offered to have my water tested to see if the system was doing what it needed to be. This was at no cost to me. Got the extensive test panel results back, which showed the system was ‘working’ but wasn’t really necessary. Our water was great but hard even with the softener. Joredan still didn’t try to sell me anything, instead offered to help me get the settings for the softener adjusted to be optimal (again at no cost). I would highly recommend Smart Living Water and regret not researching local suppliers more before purchasing from a national retailer. I have a good system but it didn’t come with the service that Joredan and his company provide.

I’ve been interested in a home water filtration system for a while. I met Joredan at a Home and Garden event and decided to spring for a free water test and estimate. He was super friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything and answered all my questions. I came away with a better understanding of the water system in my home, and a new filtration unit. Water from the tap tastes fantastic now. Great experience!

Frequently asked questions

Does Smart Living Water charge to come out to Loma for a water test?
No. We drive to Loma at no charge and run a thorough water test on-site. There's no fee for the visit, no fee for the test, and no obligation to purchase anything afterward. If your water turns out to be fine, we'll tell you that. Knowing your water quality is step one, and we don't charge for step one. Call (970) 773-6439 to schedule.
What does a Loma water test check for?
Whether a Loma home is on city or well water changes what is worth testing. Our free test looks at hardness, chlorine and chloramines, lead and other heavy metals, VOCs, and PFAS at your tap, which is exactly why we run an actual test rather than making assumptions. We bring the equipment to your door.
Do I need a permit to install a water filtration system in Loma?
Work that touches your plumbing is generally permitted through the Mesa County Building Department and requires inspection before walls are closed. If you have an on-site wastewater treatment system, the Mesa County Public Health Department requires a separate permit before any installation, alteration, or repair. We're familiar with the local requirements and we handle the permitting process as part of the job. We don't do unpermitted work.
What's the difference between a water softener and a whole-home filtration system for a Loma home?
A water softener addresses hardness specifically, reducing the mineral content that causes scale on appliances, spotting on dishes, and dry skin. Whole-home filtration targets a broader range of contaminants including sediment, chlorine, VOCs, and heavy metals. For Loma homes whose test shows both hardness and contaminants like PFAS or radionuclides, we often recommend a combination or a whole-home reverse osmosis system. The right answer depends on what your water test actually shows.
How does Loma's clay soil affect my home's water system?
Loma's soils are clay-rich with high shrink-swell characteristics. This matters for homes with buried water lines or on-site systems because expansive clay can shift over time, putting stress on connections and underground pipes. Colorado also requires underground water lines to be buried well below the frost line, which in this area means significant depth. If you're experiencing pressure issues or water quality changes in an older Loma home, soil movement and aging supply lines are worth investigating alongside the water chemistry itself.
Can Smart Living Water install a whole-home RO system in Loma?
Yes. We install custom-built whole-home reverse osmosis systems throughout the Grand Valley and surrounding areas, including Loma. A whole-home RO handles hardness, PFAS, heavy metals, radionuclides, and most other contaminants in a single system. Not every home needs it, and we won't push it if something simpler will solve your problem. But if you want the most complete treatment available, that's what we offer. Start with a free water test and we'll show you what the right solution actually is.
