Cedaredge Water Comes Off the Grand Mesa

Smart Living Water installs whole house water filtration in Cedaredge, CO, and the first step is always a free water test in your home. Cedaredge draws its water from creeks and springs high on the Grand Mesa, and our Grand Junction team travels to Cedaredge to show you what that water looks like by the time it reaches your faucet. Call (970) 773-6439 to book.

The Town of Cedaredge's latest Drinking Water Quality Report lists eleven sources, all treated as surface water, from Marcott Creek, Kehmeier Creek, the West Fork of Surface Creek and East Beaver Creek to a string of numbered springs. The town reported no violations for 2024. Good source water is a strong start. What happens in your service line and house plumbing is a separate question, and it's the one our test answers.

We are family owned, rated 4.9 stars across 76 Google reviews, and members of the Western Colorado Home Builders Association. We install filtration, softeners, whole-home reverse osmosis and the HydraShield Elite, and we match the system to the numbers.

What the Cedaredge Water Report Shows

Low byproducts, low sodium, and one lead result worth understanding.

The town's 2025 report (covering 2024 data, system ID CO0115171) is a fairly clean read. Total haloacetic acids averaged 14.53 parts per billion against a 60 ppb limit, and total trihalomethanes averaged 15.15 ppb against an 80 ppb limit. Sodium came in at 1.8 parts per million in the most recent sample. Those are the disinfection byproducts that form when chlorine meets natural organic matter, and Cedaredge's numbers sit well under the limits. The line worth a second look is lead. The 90th percentile result was 2 ppb, under the 15 ppb action level, but the individual samples ranged from 0 to 24 ppb and one of the ten homes sampled came in above the action level. Lead almost never comes from the source water. It comes from older solder, fixtures and service lines inside individual homes, which is exactly why a test at your tap tells you more than a town average.

What We Test for in Cedaredge Homes

We read the results with you, line by line.

Lead and Copper Indicators

Because lead and copper come from household plumbing, we pay attention to the age of your pipes and fixtures and talk you through what a certified lab test would confirm.

Chlorine and Taste

Town water is chlorinated for safety on its trip through the mains. We measure chlorine at your faucet, since it drives most taste and odor complaints and is easy to remove with carbon.

Hardness and TDS

Creek and spring water off the Mesa often runs lower in minerals than river water downstream. We measure hardness and total dissolved solids so you know if a softener is worth it or not.

Sediment

Mountain intakes can pick up fine material during runoff. A sediment reading tells us if your fixtures and water heater need a pre-filter.

What We Install

Water Treatment Options for Cedaredge

Whole House Water Filtration

A whole-house filtration system removes chlorine taste and sediment at the point of entry so every room gets the same water. For most Cedaredge homes on town water, this is the core of the plan.

Whole Home Reverse Osmosis

If lead, copper or dissolved solids show up and you want them addressed everywhere, whole-home reverse osmosis gives the broadest reduction we offer.

Drinking Water Filtration

For a lighter touch, drinking water filtration delivers cleaner water where you drink and cook.

Water Softeners, Only If Needed

If your results show meaningful hardness we'll size a water softener. If they don't, you won't hear a pitch for one.

HydraShield Elite

Our salt-free HydraShield Elite combines several treatment stages into one whole-home system that is maintenance-free under normal use.

How It Works

From Test to Install in Cedaredge

Test at Your Sink

We come to your Cedaredge home, run the test on the spot and explain each number. You keep the results either way.

One Honest Plan

We recommend the system your water calls for, not the biggest one in the catalog. Sometimes the answer is a filter at one tap.

Clean Installation

The crew that tests your water installs your system, then walks you through how it works and what, if anything, it will ever need.

What Cedaredge Homeowners Should Know

Cedaredge's supply depends on Grand Mesa snowpack. The town's own master plan describes intakes and spring boxes in the Grand Mesa National Forest between roughly 9,500 and 8,000 feet, piped down to the treatment plant. In April 2026 the town moved to Stage Two water restrictions after a poor snowpack, asking for a 30 percent cut in domestic use. A thin snow year doesn't make the water unsafe, but it is a reminder that source water changes with the seasons, and a home filtration system evens out what you notice at the tap. If your home is older, the lead result in the town report is the best reason to test. It doesn't mean your water has a problem. It means the only way to know is to look at your own faucet, and that part is free.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Cedaredge get its drinking water?
The town's 2025 water quality report lists eleven sources, all classed as surface water: Marcott Creek, Kehmeier Creek, the West Fork of Surface Creek, East Beaver Creek, and several numbered springs. The intakes sit on the Grand Mesa above town.
Is there lead in Cedaredge water?
The town's 90th percentile lead result for 2024 was 2 ppb, under the 15 ppb action level, but one of ten homes sampled came in above it. Lead typically comes from household plumbing, not the source, so testing your own tap is the best way to know.
Does Cedaredge need a water softener?
We haven't seen a published hardness figure for the Cedaredge system, so we don't assume one. The free test measures hardness at your tap, and we only recommend a softener if the number supports it.
What are the disinfection byproduct levels in Cedaredge?
In 2024, haloacetic acids averaged 14.53 ppb (limit 60) and trihalomethanes averaged 15.15 ppb (limit 80), according to the town's report. A carbon-based whole-house filter reduces both along with chlorine taste.
