Clifton's Water Is Genuinely Hard

Smart Living Water installs whole-home water filtration and softening systems for Clifton, CO homeowners, and we come to you free of charge for the water test and quote. Grand Valley water is hard, and that mineral load doesn't just taste off. It builds scale inside your water heater, stiffens your laundry, and leaves a film on every glass you own. One call to (970) 773-6439 gets Bryce Quigley to your door with a free water test and a straight answer about what your home actually needs.

What reaches your glass in Clifton also depends on your home's pipes and fixtures. Our free water test checks hardness, chloramines, lead, VOCs, and PFAS at your own tap, which tells you far more than a pitcher filter ever will. Smart Living Water has earned a 4.9-star rating across 76 Google reviews, and we're a proud member of the Western Colorado Home Builders Association. We're not a franchise sending out a contractor you've never met; Bryce owns the business and stands behind every install.

What Hard Water Actually Does to a Clifton Home

Very hard water isn't a cosmetic problem. It's a slow drain on your appliances and your wallet.

Hard water is measured in grains per gallon, and the free water test gives you the exact number at your Clifton tap. At the hardness levels common in the Grand Valley, scale accumulates inside water heaters fast enough to cut efficiency noticeably within the first few years. Pipes and fixtures collect mineral deposits that eventually restrict flow. Skin and hair feel the difference too, the kind of dryness and irritation that lotion doesn't fix, because the problem is what's coming out of the tap before you ever get to the shampoo. A whole-house water softener addresses this at the point of entry, so every faucet in the house gets treated water from the first run of the morning.

Clifton Water Testing

What We Test Clifton Water For

Hardness is the visible problem. These are the ones you can't see.

Lead and Heavy Metals

Lead usually gets into water at the tap, from older service lines, solder, and fixtures, rather than at the source. We check for it in every Clifton test, and if it turns up, a whole-home filtration system addresses it at entry, not just at one faucet.

PFAS

So-called forever chemicals are on our test list because standard carbon filters don't reliably remove them. If your results show PFAS, reverse osmosis is the most effective treatment currently available for residential use.

Chloramines and VOCs

Chloramines are used to disinfect municipal water and carry their own taste and odor problems. Volatile organic compounds can enter groundwater from agricultural and industrial sources. Both are addressed in a properly specified whole-home system.

Radionuclides

Radionuclides don't announce themselves in taste or smell, so nobody knows about them without a test. That's exactly why a lab-quality water test matters more than a guessing game about what filter to buy.

How It Works

From Free Water Test to Clean Water at Every Tap

Free In-Home Water Test

Bryce comes to your Clifton home at no charge, tests your water, and shows you exactly what's in it. No lab delay, no vague results, real numbers from your actual tap.

System Recommendation

Based on what the test finds, you get a specific recommendation matched to your water and your home. If a softener alone handles it, that's what we'll tell you. If PFAS or lead numbers call for reverse osmosis, we'll say that instead.

Professional Installation

We handle the full install: no subcontractors, no handoffs to someone you haven't met. The system goes in right, and we walk you through how it works before we leave.

The Systems We Install for Clifton Homeowners

Every option is a whole-home solution, not a countertop gadget.

Whole House Water Filtration

A whole-home filtration system tackles the broad contaminant list: sediment, chloramines, VOCs, heavy metals, at the point where water enters the house. Maintenance is minimal and the results cover every fixture, not just the kitchen sink.

Water Softener Installation

For hard water in Clifton, a properly sized salt-based softener is the direct answer. Scale stops building. Appliances run the way they were designed to. Skin stops feeling tight after a shower. We size the unit to your household's actual usage, not a round number.

Whole Home Reverse Osmosis

If the water test shows PFAS, lead, or radionuclides at levels that concern you, a whole-home RO system is the most complete solution available for residential use. Not every water treatment company in Western Colorado installs whole-home RO. We do. Francine Brown, one of our customers, called hers 'the Cadillac,' and that's about right.

HydraShield Elite Systems

The HydraShield Elite is our flagship whole-home system and the one we install when a customer wants the most comprehensive treatment available. It's saltless, it ships anywhere, and it handles a wide spectrum of contaminants without the ongoing salt costs of a traditional softener.

No Hidden Fees. No Annual Maintenance Contracts.

This is the part where most companies bury the catch. There isn't one.

Bryce built Smart Living Water specifically to be the opposite of the companies that charge annual fees for nothing and lock customers into service contracts. The water test is free. The quote is free. Travel to Clifton costs you nothing. What we install, we stand behind.

I recently moved to the Fruita/GJ area and immediately had Joredan install a salt system as my family likes soft water. I found Joredan online through searches and other sources. I called his competitors and none of them had anything bad or negative to say, which is highly unusual. And Joredan didn’t say anything negative about them either. They all seemed to know each other. JOREDAN’s explanation of his systems and how they were constructed and how they worked were ultimately what won me over. I scheduled him to install the system for the day of my home closing so it would be ready to go. Install was really cool to watch. They did some good work. After one regeneration cycle, the water was so soft I had to call him and thank him. But he went above and beyond. I moved back to Fruita from FL where I used a company that provides a similar salt system. But they rip their customers off by charging $300 per year to “maintain the system and deliver 2 bags of salt every 8 weeks.” They did nothing to “maintain the system” other than put in salt and hit regen on the panel. I had black mold growing in my brine tank and it was coming into the home via the toilets. I disputed this with the company and they said it was normal due to the humidity. Nothing is normal about mold. So I disputed the charge of $300 because they weren’t doing their job. They fought me and my bank wanted a third party person who worked in the industry to write an opinion. Joredan wrote me a letter while he was on vacation. I submitted it. I won my claim. Got my money back from the rip off company. JOREDAN and Smart Living Water are true professionals. I know if I encounter any issues he will come out and make it right. And he doesn’t charge annual fees or any of that crap. Just straight forward, upfront pricing. And he explains how the system functions and when it will need to be flushed or repaired (like in 10 years!). He’s a good guy too. Easy to talk to. Thank you Joredan.

I found Smart Living Water on Google and tried to call two other local competitors first and they did not answer their phones. Later that day I called Joredan (after hours expecting an answering machine) and instead he answered surprisingly and we literally talked for almost an hour. He asked lots of questions, and I literally about broke down. Finally solutions and not more problems. I spent ten years with scars that wouldn't heal. Seven surgeries. My most recent one was six months ago, and within a few weeks of being back in hard water, it was cracking and bleeding all over again — it’s like my body couldn't catch a single break. Then I put in the HydraShield Elite whole-house system from Smart Living Water (I call it the Cadillac, and it earns the nickname), and in less than a week my skin started healing in ways it hasn't in a decade. I'm not reaching for lotion just to function. I’m not using it AT ALL except on my hands – YAY! I'm using less soap. And for the first time in years, I'm not waking up thirsty in the night, thanks to the RO. I drank distilled water for three years to protect my health, and the gunk my distiller used to pull out of the water was its own warning (I've added the pictures to prove it). I added the reverse osmosis system too, and honestly, the difference in how I feel is amazing. I do so much just to deal with chronic pain and live life, that anything and everything can make or break the day to day. What sold me wasn't a pitch — it was Joredan Quigley asking the right questions. He focused on me, my situation, and my actual health needs, then matched me to the right system instead of the biggest one. His customer service is the best I've come across: he follows up, he shows up, and his assistant Hayden Christenson made the whole thing simple. This saltless system ships anywhere in the U.S. Here's what people to hear: look at your water FIRST and let Joredan guide you. Well water, city water — doesn't matter. So much of what we put up with or blame on our skin, our health, starts with what we put into our body. I was drinking 2 gallons of water a day the last couple months moving. It wasn’t working. I added electrolytes and it wasn’t enough. Meanwhile my scars were becoming debilitating again. My cells could not hydrate and I was super light headed. Moving is stressful enough without all the extra complications. Thankfully it is now going the other way. I will update this review as I go along. Here is the difference of what I was dealing with in my distiller alone. ________________________________________

Tastes Good!! Smart Living Water is in a similar class as Deep Rock Artesian water (no longer available), the best drinking water we have ever assessed by our method of energetic testing. Joredan is personable, smart, knowledgeable, timely, and easy to work with. We recommend the Smart Living Water Purification system as an extremely worthwhile homeowner's investment! Dr. T and J

I met Joredan at the Grand Junction home show. We are on well water (new experience for us) and I had already installed a purification/softener system. I did not know about Smart Living Water at the time. Joredan made no sales pitch, but offered to have my water tested to see if the system was doing what it needed to be. This was at no cost to me. Got the extensive test panel results back, which showed the system was ‘working’ but wasn’t really necessary. Our water was great but hard even with the softener. Joredan still didn’t try to sell me anything, instead offered to help me get the settings for the softener adjusted to be optimal (again at no cost). I would highly recommend Smart Living Water and regret not researching local suppliers more before purchasing from a national retailer. I have a good system but it didn’t come with the service that Joredan and his company provide.

I’ve been interested in a home water filtration system for a while. I met Joredan at a Home and Garden event and decided to spring for a free water test and estimate. He was super friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything and answered all my questions. I came away with a better understanding of the water system in my home, and a new filtration unit. Water from the tap tastes fantastic now. Great experience!

Frequently asked questions

How hard is the water in Clifton, CO, and should I be concerned?
Grand Valley water is hard, and Clifton homes see the same signs: scale on fixtures, spotted dishes, and a water heater working harder than it should. As hardness rises, scale buildup in water heaters and appliances accelerates noticeably, and you'll feel it in your skin and hair long before you measure it. Clifton homeowners have a genuine problem here, not a marginal one. A free water test from Smart Living Water will confirm the exact reading at your tap, since conditions can vary by neighborhood.
What does a Clifton water test check for?
Our free in-home test covers what Clifton homeowners ask about most: hardness, chloramines, lead and other heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and PFAS. PFAS in particular won't be removed by a standard carbon filter; reverse osmosis is the most effective residential treatment for it. Results can shift with the season and with your home's plumbing, so a test at your specific address is how you find out what you're actually dealing with.
Does Smart Living Water service Clifton, and is the water test really free?
Yes to both. Clifton is part of our regular service area, and Bryce travels to Clifton at no charge for water tests and quotes. There's no trip fee, no assessment charge, and no obligation after the test. The free water test is the first step for every customer because we won't recommend a system without knowing what your water actually contains. Call (970) 773-6439 to schedule.
Do I need a permit from Mesa County to install a water softener or filtration system in Clifton?
The Mesa County Building Department handles permits for work that affects plumbing or wastewater systems in the area. For a standard whole-home water softener or filtration system installation, permit requirements depend on the scope of the work and whether it connects to or alters your home's plumbing. Installations involving On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems do require Mesa County permits. We handle the installation professionally and can walk you through what's required for your specific setup before any work begins.
What's the difference between a water softener and a whole-home filtration system for Clifton homes?
A water softener addresses hardness specifically. It removes the calcium and magnesium ions that cause scale, stiff laundry, and that dry-skin feeling. A whole-home filtration system targets a broader contaminant spectrum: chloramines, sediment, VOCs, heavy metals, and similar issues. Plenty of Clifton homeowners want both the hardness and the taste or chemical issues handled, and a combined system does that. The free water test tells us which combination actually fits your situation, so we're not guessing at a recommendation.
How does Mesa County's snowmelt flooding affect Clifton's water quality?
Mesa County experiences significant stream flooding from rapid snowmelt in addition to flash floods from monsoonal weather. Flooding events can temporarily increase sediment loads and introduce surface contaminants into groundwater. Clifton's water supply draws from both surface and groundwater sources, so it's not immune to seasonal variation in water quality. A whole-home filtration system with sediment pre-filtration provides a consistent line of defense regardless of what's happening upstream or in the local water table during runoff season.
