Spring Water With a Well-Water Backup

Smart Living Water installs whole house water filtration in Basalt, CO, and we start every job with a free water test. The Town of Basalt's main supply comes from springs on Basalt Mountain, and the town says it switches on wells during periods of high demand, so the water in your glass can shift with the season. Our Grand Junction team comes to you in Basalt, runs the test in your home, and shows you the results before anyone talks about equipment. Call (970) 773-6439 to schedule.

Smart Living Water is family-owned and based in Grand Junction. We carry a 4.9-star rating across 76 Google reviews and are members of the Western Colorado Home Builders Association. Joredan and Bryce Quigley would rather tell a Basalt homeowner their water is fine than sell a system the test does not support.

What the Town of Basalt Reports

Pulled from the town's water system page and its 2026 Consumer Confidence Report.

The town's 2026 report lists Basalt Springs 1 through 6 and Lucksinger Springs 1 and 2 as its spring sources, plus wells 9, 11 and 13. The springs are filtered and treated with small amounts of chlorine before they reach town. The town's own water system page notes that the well water is somewhat harder than the spring water, though it does not publish a hardness number. The report shows total trihalomethanes at 3.65 ppb, naturally occurring uranium averaging 2.33 ppb and nitrate averaging 0.7 ppm in 2025, all under federal limits, and lists no violations for the year. Our test fills in what a system-wide report cannot: hardness, iron, chlorine and dissolved solids at your own faucet on the day we visit.

What We Install

Water Treatment for Basalt Homes

Picked from your results, sized to your house.

Whole House Water Filtration

For chlorine taste and smell, sediment, or a general cleanup of what comes in the main line, a whole house filtration system treats every tap at once. It is the most common fit for town water that is already in good shape.

Drinking Water Filtration

Some Basalt households only want better water at the kitchen sink. Drinking water filtration handles cooking and drinking water without changing the rest of the plumbing.

Water Softener Installation

Since the town says its wells run harder than its springs, hardness can rise when the wells are carrying more of the load. If your test shows scale-level hardness, we size a water softener to your actual number.

HydraShield Elite

Our HydraShield Elite is a salt-free whole-house system designed and built in Western Colorado, and it is maintenance-free under normal use.

What Basalt Homeowners Should Know

A spring-fed supply is a good starting point, but two things are worth checking. First, the town blends in well water when demand climbs, and the town itself describes that well water as harder, so a test taken in a high-demand stretch may read differently from one taken in a quiet month. Second, the town's report points out that lead in drinking water comes mainly from service lines and home plumbing, not from the source, and it keeps a lead service line inventory residents can ask about. If your home is on a private well rather than the town system, no utility is testing that water at all. The free water test shows what is in your water specifically, whichever group you fall into.

Test and Talk It Over

We run the test at your tap and go through each number with you, including whether anything actually needs treating.

Install If It Makes Sense

If a system fits, we install it, set it to your water and show you how it works. If nothing needs fixing, you keep the results and we leave it there.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Basalt's drinking water come from?
According to the Town of Basalt, the main supply is springs on Basalt Mountain, collected and piped into town. The 2026 report names Basalt Springs 1 through 6 and Lucksinger Springs 1 and 2, with wells 9, 11 and 13 supplementing during high demand.
Is Basalt water hard?
The town says its well water is somewhat harder than its spring water but does not publish a hardness figure. We measure hardness at your tap during the free test so you can decide on a softener with a real number in hand.
Does the Town of Basalt chlorinate its water?
Yes. The town says the spring water is filtered and treated with small amounts of chlorine. Its 2026 report lists total trihalomethanes, a chlorine byproduct, at 3.65 ppb, well under the federal limit of 80 ppb.
My home near Basalt is on a private well. Do you test those?
Yes, and we would encourage it. A private well is not part of the town's monitoring, so an in-home test is often the only data the owner has. The test is free.
Where is Smart Living Water based?
Grand Junction. We travel to Basalt for the water test and the installation. Call (970) 773-6439 to set it up.
