Montrose Hard Water Is Worth Fixing

Smart Living Water handles water treatment in Montrose, CO, from whole house water filtration to water softener installation and reverse osmosis, and every job starts with a free water test at your tap. Montrose water carries a real mineral load, and like any chlorinated supply it can carry treatment byproducts too. That's exactly why a free water test is the right first step before you buy anything. Call (970) 773-6439 and we'll come out, test your water, and tell you straight what it shows.

Smart Living Water holds a 4.9-star average across 76 Google reviews and is a proud member of the Western Colorado Home Builders Association. We're not a franchise. We're a locally owned operation based in Grand Junction, and Montrose is well within our regular service area. We don't charge travel fees to get there, and we don't lock you into annual maintenance contracts once the system is in. The work either stands on its own or we make it right.

What We Test Montrose Water For

Hardness is only part of it. Here's what our Montrose test covers before you decide anything.

Mineral content in Montrose water is enough to leave scale on appliances, spotted dishes, and a coating on fixtures over time. Our test also checks for Total Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic acids, the disinfection byproducts that form when chlorine reacts with organic matter, and for radium, a naturally occurring radioactive element. A standard softener handles hardness. It does not remove TTHMs, radium, or HAAs. That's where a whole-home filtration system or a whole-home reverse osmosis system earns its place in a Montrose home.

What We Install

Water Treatment Options for Montrose Homes

Every system is sized to your home and your specific water test results, not sold off a shelf.

Whole House Water Filtration

A whole-home filtration system treats every faucet, shower, and appliance in the house. If your Montrose test shows disinfection byproducts, multi-stage filtration designed to reduce TTHMs and HAAs is the right tool.

Water Softener Installation

Hard mineral content builds scale in water heaters, supply lines, and on fixtures. A properly sized softener eliminates that. We set it, calibrate the regeneration cycle, and show you exactly what it needs over time.

Whole Home Reverse Osmosis

The most complete solution we offer. A whole-home RO system pushes every drop of water through a membrane that removes dissolved solids, radium, and other contaminants standard filtration can't fully address. Not every home needs it, but if your water test says it fits, there's nothing more thorough.

HydraShield Elite Systems

The HydraShield Elite whole-house system is what we installed for customer Francine Brown, who described a decade of skin problems resolving within a week of installation. Saltless, ships anywhere, and built to last without ongoing service fees.

Permits and Inspections in Montrose

The Montrose Community Development Department handles building and plumbing permits, including water and sewer connection permits. If your installation involves a new connection, a Sewer-Water Connection Permit is required, along with a backflow preventer. Plumbing inspections in Montrose must happen before walls are closed, and the city requires a water or air pressure test at that stage. We're familiar with this process. Every install we do is set up to pass inspection without surprise callbacks.

The Free Water Test Is Where We Start

We don't quote systems based on what we think your water looks like. We test it first. For Montrose homeowners, that means we drive out, run the panel, and go through the results with you on the spot. No charge for the visit, no charge for the test, and no pressure to buy anything that day. Jo Anne Jacobs, a customer on well water, described exactly this experience: Joredan ran her water test, found her existing system was working but not optimized, and spent time helping her adjust settings without selling her a thing. That's the standard we hold ourselves to. If you don't need a new system, we'll tell you. If you do, we'll show you exactly why.

I recently moved to the Fruita/GJ area and immediately had Joredan install a salt system as my family likes soft water. I found Joredan online through searches and other sources. I called his competitors and none of them had anything bad or negative to say, which is highly unusual. And Joredan didn’t say anything negative about them either. They all seemed to know each other. JOREDAN’s explanation of his systems and how they were constructed and how they worked were ultimately what won me over. I scheduled him to install the system for the day of my home closing so it would be ready to go. Install was really cool to watch. They did some good work. After one regeneration cycle, the water was so soft I had to call him and thank him. But he went above and beyond. I moved back to Fruita from FL where I used a company that provides a similar salt system. But they rip their customers off by charging $300 per year to “maintain the system and deliver 2 bags of salt every 8 weeks.” They did nothing to “maintain the system” other than put in salt and hit regen on the panel. I had black mold growing in my brine tank and it was coming into the home via the toilets. I disputed this with the company and they said it was normal due to the humidity. Nothing is normal about mold. So I disputed the charge of $300 because they weren’t doing their job. They fought me and my bank wanted a third party person who worked in the industry to write an opinion. Joredan wrote me a letter while he was on vacation. I submitted it. I won my claim. Got my money back from the rip off company. JOREDAN and Smart Living Water are true professionals. I know if I encounter any issues he will come out and make it right. And he doesn’t charge annual fees or any of that crap. Just straight forward, upfront pricing. And he explains how the system functions and when it will need to be flushed or repaired (like in 10 years!). He’s a good guy too. Easy to talk to. Thank you Joredan.

I found Smart Living Water on Google and tried to call two other local competitors first and they did not answer their phones. Later that day I called Joredan (after hours expecting an answering machine) and instead he answered surprisingly and we literally talked for almost an hour. He asked lots of questions, and I literally about broke down. Finally solutions and not more problems. I spent ten years with scars that wouldn't heal. Seven surgeries. My most recent one was six months ago, and within a few weeks of being back in hard water, it was cracking and bleeding all over again — it’s like my body couldn't catch a single break. Then I put in the HydraShield Elite whole-house system from Smart Living Water (I call it the Cadillac, and it earns the nickname), and in less than a week my skin started healing in ways it hasn't in a decade. I'm not reaching for lotion just to function. I’m not using it AT ALL except on my hands – YAY! I'm using less soap. And for the first time in years, I'm not waking up thirsty in the night, thanks to the RO. I drank distilled water for three years to protect my health, and the gunk my distiller used to pull out of the water was its own warning (I've added the pictures to prove it). I added the reverse osmosis system too, and honestly, the difference in how I feel is amazing. I do so much just to deal with chronic pain and live life, that anything and everything can make or break the day to day. What sold me wasn't a pitch — it was Joredan Quigley asking the right questions. He focused on me, my situation, and my actual health needs, then matched me to the right system instead of the biggest one. His customer service is the best I've come across: he follows up, he shows up, and his assistant Hayden Christenson made the whole thing simple. This saltless system ships anywhere in the U.S. Here's what people to hear: look at your water FIRST and let Joredan guide you. Well water, city water — doesn't matter. So much of what we put up with or blame on our skin, our health, starts with what we put into our body. I was drinking 2 gallons of water a day the last couple months moving. It wasn’t working. I added electrolytes and it wasn’t enough. Meanwhile my scars were becoming debilitating again. My cells could not hydrate and I was super light headed. Moving is stressful enough without all the extra complications. Thankfully it is now going the other way. I will update this review as I go along. Here is the difference of what I was dealing with in my distiller alone. ________________________________________

Tastes Good!! Smart Living Water is in a similar class as Deep Rock Artesian water (no longer available), the best drinking water we have ever assessed by our method of energetic testing. Joredan is personable, smart, knowledgeable, timely, and easy to work with. We recommend the Smart Living Water Purification system as an extremely worthwhile homeowner's investment! Dr. T and J

I met Joredan at the Grand Junction home show. We are on well water (new experience for us) and I had already installed a purification/softener system. I did not know about Smart Living Water at the time. Joredan made no sales pitch, but offered to have my water tested to see if the system was doing what it needed to be. This was at no cost to me. Got the extensive test panel results back, which showed the system was ‘working’ but wasn’t really necessary. Our water was great but hard even with the softener. Joredan still didn’t try to sell me anything, instead offered to help me get the settings for the softener adjusted to be optimal (again at no cost). I would highly recommend Smart Living Water and regret not researching local suppliers more before purchasing from a national retailer. I have a good system but it didn’t come with the service that Joredan and his company provide.

I’ve been interested in a home water filtration system for a while. I met Joredan at a Home and Garden event and decided to spring for a free water test and estimate. He was super friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything and answered all my questions. I came away with a better understanding of the water system in my home, and a new filtration unit. Water from the tap tastes fantastic now. Great experience!

Frequently asked questions

Does Smart Living Water service Montrose, and is there a travel fee?
Yes, Montrose is within our regular service area. We drive out from Grand Junction at no charge for both the water test and the quote. There's no travel fee, no fuel surcharge, and no bill if you decide not to move forward with a system after seeing your results. Call (970) 773-6439 to schedule.
What does a Montrose water test check for?
Our free Montrose water test checks hardness and total dissolved solids, chlorine, the disinfection byproducts TTHMs and HAAs (which form when chlorine reacts with organic matter), and radium. Your water provider also publishes an annual water quality report. A free water test at your address will show what your specific tap is actually delivering.
Will a water softener fix the contaminants in Montrose water, or do I need something more?
A softener addresses hardness. It reduces scale buildup on appliances and fixtures, and it can improve how your skin and hair feel in the shower. It does not remove TTHMs, HAAs, or radium. For those, you need a multi-stage filtration system or a whole-home reverse osmosis system. That's exactly why we test first. Selling a Montrose homeowner a softener when their real problem is disinfection byproducts wouldn't be honest, and we don't do it.
Do I need a permit to install a water treatment system in Montrose?
It depends on the scope. The Montrose Community Development Department handles plumbing permits. New water or sewer connections require a permit and a backflow preventer. Plumbing inspections in Montrose must happen before walls are closed and require a pressure test. We're familiar with the local process. Every job we do is set up to meet code, and we can walk you through what your specific installation will need before we start.
How long does installation take for a whole-home system in Montrose?
Most whole-home filtration or softening installs are completed in a single visit. Customer Appraiser Secrets noted that the system was installed the same day they purchased it. Whole-home reverse osmosis systems can take longer depending on the home's plumbing configuration. We'll give you a realistic timeframe before we start, not after. Every job is different. Contact Smart Living Water for an accurate estimate.
What happens after installation? Is there ongoing maintenance?
Most of our systems are genuinely low-maintenance. Softeners need salt added periodically, which we'll explain during the walkthrough. Multi-stage filtration systems have filter media that gets replaced on a schedule, depending on your water volume and quality. We don't charge annual service fees just to keep the account active. We don't show up once a year to put in salt and charge you $300 for the privilege. If something needs attention, call us and we'll handle it.
