A River, Two Wells and One Kitchen Tap

Smart Living Water installs whole house water filtration in Silt, CO, and the first step is always a free test of the water at your tap. The Town of Silt's 2026 Drinking Water Quality Report lists three sources: a diversion on the Colorado River and two wells, Well 2R and Well 3R, which the state classifies as groundwater under the direct influence of surface water. A mixed supply like that can shift in taste and mineral content, so we would rather measure your water than assume.

We drive up from Grand Junction to Silt, fill a sample at your sink, and read the results with you while we are still in the house. When a whole house water filtration system earns its place, your own numbers will show it. Smart Living Water holds a 4.9-star rating across 76 Google reviews and is a member of the Western Colorado Home Builders Association.

What Silt's 2026 Water Report Shows

Clean on compliance, with a few numbers worth knowing.

The town's report, covering 2025, lists no violations, significant deficiencies or formal enforcement actions. A handful of detections are still worth understanding. Total trihalomethanes, formed when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter, averaged 53.48 ppb across eight samples, under the 80 ppb limit. Haloacetic acids averaged 20.07 ppb against 60. Selenium measured 8 ppb against a 50 ppb limit, and chromium 5 ppb against 100. The most recent radiological sampling, from 2021, found combined radium at 2.4 pCi/L (limit 5) and uranium at 2 ppb (limit 30). The report lists erosion of natural deposits as the typical source for radium, uranium and chromium. Sodium measured 123 ppm. None of these break a rule. They are the kind of low, naturally occurring background that some families choose to filter, especially if they drink a lot of tap water or have young children. The test at your home tells you where your water sits today.

What We Install

Water Treatment Options in Silt

Every recommendation follows your test results.

Whole House Water Filtration

A whole-home filtration system installed on the main line reduces chlorine, its byproducts, and sediment for every tap and shower in the house.

Whole Home Reverse Osmosis

For radium, uranium, selenium and sodium, a membrane does what carbon cannot. Whole-home reverse osmosis treats the entire house, and a kitchen drinking water system covers the water you drink and cook with.

Water Softener Installation

USGS sampled the Colorado River at Silt at 186 mg/L hardness in October 2022, which is very hard. If your tap reads similar, a water softener prevents scale in your water heater and on fixtures.

HydraShield Elite

Silt homeowners who want filtration, sediment handling and scale control in a single cabinet can look at the HydraShield Elite, our 10-stage salt-free whole-home system built in Western Colorado.

We install with a sediment stage sized for Silt's mixed river and well supply, then walk you through the system. Under normal use, our systems are designed to be maintenance-free.

What Silt Homeowners Should Know

If you have ever turned on a tap in Silt and seen brown water, the town has guidance for that. Its water and wastewater page links a "Brown Water out of Your Tap?" notice, and when the town addressed resident complaints in 2019, it asked people to call Town Hall so crews could flush hydrants, to run cold water inside or from a hose outside until it ran clear, and not to turn on the hot water. That last point matters: drawing discolored water into a water heater, or into a new filtration system, loads it with sediment it did not need to handle. If you see brown water, follow the town's steps first. A whole-home system with a sediment stage gives you a buffer for the in-between times, when water is clear enough to use but still carrying fine particles. We size that stage to your household. Silt is also planning ahead on the supply side. The town's website posts water treatment plant planning documents and an environmental assessment, along with its water, wastewater and irrigation master plan. It is worth keeping an eye on those, because changes at the plant can change what your water looks like at the tap. When that happens, we are glad to retest.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Silt's drinking water come from?
The Town of Silt's 2026 Drinking Water Quality Report lists a Colorado River diversion and two wells, Well 2R and Well 3R, classified as groundwater under the direct influence of surface water.
What should I do if my Silt tap water turns brown?
Follow the town's guidance: call Town Hall so crews can flush hydrants, run cold water until it clears, and avoid turning on the hot water so sediment does not end up in your water heater.
Is there radium or uranium in Silt's water?
Low levels. The town's most recent sampling, in 2021, found combined radium at 2.4 pCi/L (limit 5) and uranium at 2 ppb (limit 30). If you would like them lower, reverse osmosis is the usual approach, and our free test helps you decide.
Is Silt water hard?
The town's report does not list hardness. A USGS sample of the Colorado River at Silt measured 186 mg/L in October 2022, which the USGS calls very hard. Because Silt also uses wells, we measure the hardness at your tap.
Can I book a free water test at my Silt home?
Yes. We come out to Silt homes for the free test. If your water was recently discolored, mention it when you call (970) 773-6439 so we can schedule after it clears.
