Where Reverse Osmosis Fits in a Delta Home

A reverse osmosis system in Delta, CO is the step that removes what the water picks up inside your own walls, along with the dissolved minerals that every other filter lets through. The City of Delta reports that its service line inventory found no lead service lines, which is good news, but lead and copper can still come from faucets, fittings and solder inside a house. Our Grand Junction team comes to you in Delta with a free water test to see what your tap shows. Call (970) 773-6439.

Reverse osmosis is also where people end up when they want the cleanest drinking water they can get, not because something is wrong, but because they want less of everything. Delta's supply meets federal standards, and the city's most recent lead and copper results were well under action levels. RO simply goes further than standards require.

If you are weighing RO against a simpler setup, our Delta water page compares the options against the city's and Project 7's published results.

What the Numbers Say About Delta Water

City of Delta and Project 7 reports, with the year for each figure.

No lead service lines found

The City of Delta says it inspected randomized locations, reviewed records and filed a non-lead inventory. The pipe from the main to your house is not the lead source here.

Lead 2.3 ppb, copper 0.42 ppm

Those were the 90th percentile results from 30 homes in the City of Delta's 2021 sampling, against action levels of 15 ppb and 1.3 ppm. No home exceeded either.

PFAS below quantitation

Project 7 tested for 29 PFAS compounds in 2024 and 2025. Every result was below the lab's practical quantitation limit, and the report calls them well below the proposed limits that take effect in 2027.

Dissolved solids up to 183 mg/L

Project 7's 2025 composite shows finished-water TDS averaging 123 mg/L. Those minerals are what make Delta's water taste like Delta water, and RO removes most of them.

How Reverse Osmosis Treats Delta Water

RO forces water through a membrane so fine that dissolved salts, metals and most other contaminants stay on one side while purified water passes to the other. The concentrated side is flushed to drain. Because it works at the molecular level, RO reduces things no sediment or carbon filter can: dissolved minerals, sodium, nitrate, fluoride, and metals like lead and copper that leach from brass fixtures and older solder. That last point is the reason RO makes sense in a town with non-lead service lines. Lead in tap water usually comes from the last few feet of plumbing, and the amount varies with how long water has sat in the pipes. Delta's 2021 sampling had a 90th percentile of 2.3 ppb, low, but not zero. An RO system at the kitchen tap or a whole-home RO system takes that down further. RO also pairs naturally with a softener. Softening adds a small amount of sodium to the water as it removes hardness (Project 7 reported 11.1 ppm sodium before softening in 2025), and RO removes it from the water you drink and cook with.

Your Options

RO Systems for Delta Households

From one faucet to the whole house.

Whole-home reverse osmosis

RO-quality water at every tap, shower and appliance, with the pretreatment Delta water needs ahead of the membrane. See our whole-home RO page.

Drinking water at the sink

For many Delta homes, drinking water filtration at the kitchen tap covers what matters: the water you drink, cook with and give the dog.

Softener in front

Project 7 water is hard, averaging 128 mg/L in 2025. A water softener protects a whole-home membrane from scale.

Carbon in front

Chloramine can damage common RO membranes. A whole house filtration stage removes it first.

How It Works

Setting Up RO in a Delta Home

Free test at the tap

We come to Delta and measure TDS, hardness and chlorine at your faucet with the free water test. If lead from home plumbing is your concern, we will talk about a lab test too.

Point of use or whole home

We go over what you want RO water for and recommend the smaller or larger system accordingly, with pretreatment where the membrane needs it.

Install and verify

After installation we measure the TDS of the RO water next to your tap water so you can see the reduction yourself.

What Delta Homeowners Should Know About RO

If your home was built with older brass fixtures or copper pipe joined with lead solder, first-draw water after a night of sitting can carry more metal than water that has been flowing. Running the cold tap before you fill a glass helps; RO handles it every time without the wait. RO removes most fluoride as well, which some people want and others do not. Project 7's 2025 composite showed fluoride averaging 0.24 mg/L. RO also produces some reject water as part of normal operation, and a whole-home system needs space for a storage tank and a drain. We look at both during the visit. Smart Living Water has a 4.9-star average across 76 Google reviews and is a member of the Western Colorado Home Builders Association. Frequently asked questions

Does Delta have lead pipes?
The City of Delta reports that it did not locate any lead service lines and filed a non-lead inventory. Lead can still come from fixtures and solder inside a home, which is why a test at your own tap matters.
Is PFAS a concern in Delta's water?
Project 7, which supplies Delta, tested for 29 PFAS compounds in 2024 and 2025, and every result was below the lab's practical quantitation limit. RO is the most effective home treatment for PFAS if you want an extra margin, but the utility data does not show a problem.
What does reverse osmosis remove from Delta water?
Most dissolved minerals (Project 7's 2025 TDS averaged 123 mg/L), sodium, fluoride, and metals such as lead and copper from home plumbing. Pretreatment handles hardness and chloramine before the membrane. See our whole-home RO page.
Should I get whole-home RO or a kitchen system?
If you want RO water everywhere, including showers and appliances, whole-home RO does that. If drinking and cooking water is the goal, a kitchen system is simpler. Our drinking water filtration page covers that option.
Does RO remove the sodium a softener adds?
Yes. RO removes most sodium, so pairing a softener for the house with RO for drinking water is a common setup in Delta. Project 7 measured 11.1 ppm sodium in 2025 before any softening. Call (970) 773-6439 to talk it through.
